[ It's a bit late in the night and he's not sure if he'll hear back from him then, but it's worth a shot, regardless. Gaia knows people hardly sleep around here though... Not without good reason. ]
Hey, John. It's me, Zack. I heard you were the one who prescribed the ante... ante-however you say it. [ It's hard to brain something like that when his mind is still rolling around a bit. ] Anyway.. Thanks. I owe you one.
[Luckily, this is before John knows about the situation with Rhys and Stein, so he's more than happy to hear from Zack.]
Acetaminophen. You can call it Tylenol, if that's easier. Glad you were able to get it, but first prescription's on the house. Sounds like you lot ran into a nasty sort of business. Worth it?
sorry for the delay! I was seeing how a few other threads and searches panned out first.
Tylenol... Yeah, I think I like that name better. Just kinda.. rolls off the tongue better. [ Don't mind the stupid joke. It's his life ambition to make people roll their eyes apparently. First one's on the house though? He'll take it. Take it if not without a slight smile at John's own likely unintended pun there. Doctor and all.
The question gets him sobering up pretty quick though. ]
But yeah- no. ..I dunno. I mean we managed to find another key, so.. that's gotta lead to something, right? It's the best lead we've had in a while.
[There's no eye rolling, just a good-natured huff and a mutter that sounds vaguely like 'Americans.']
Just try to be careful going forward. Good bet that if there's one trap, there'll be another at the next door you unlock. Hopefully, you won't have to go traipsing all over downtown on this thing. Brass, silver, gold. That's usually the order, right?
Might come down and join you lot downtown once I sort out the patient I'm looking after up here. Provided Dr. Stitches stays up here. I'd rather have a doctor in uptown and downtown if we can manage it. If you're in trouble, you should be able to contact Luna and Dr. Epps. Last I heard, they were in your neck of the woods.
How bad? Where are- no, no, I'm sorry -where are you? Where are you? I can backtrack... Haurchefant's here. [There's a long pause.] He's here. I can come back and fix you. We'll get them together.
[That first delay she just brushed off, but when he pauses again, and then responds like that, she forgets their injuries and focuses on him. Please don't go crazy on her, John.]
Mm... [This isn't any less unsettling today than it was last night.] Dreams, they're weird. Met Jia Xu, others too. Zell's post? I can't... I'm in two places. I'm in a hospital... people are- they're dying, Fiona. I can't help them, they're- [The sound of John taking a deep breath and letting it out slowly.] Since last night. I'm in two places all at once. Here, there. It's hard to... [There are so many bodies, a nurse has just run by. He gets up to hurry after her, but he's here. No. That's the door outside that he's walking toward.]
Concentration's not the best. Sorry. I'm sorry. I need to help someone. I can't help them.
Yeah. Not like with the hound. I'm not... mm. [He closes his eyes, even if she can't see, and takes another deep breath, trying to block out the hospital. But he's there. It's not possible to block all of it out.]
I dreamed I was underwater. There were other people there. People from here. People from before. Met Jia Xu. They're trapped here. Something... something about spirals. We're in the corner. We need to get out of the corner.
No! No, please, miss, stay in the corner. I'll fetch a nurse she- [Silence once more.]
I think I'm seeing it. What happened. A plague. They couldn't handle it. I can't handle... I can't read any of their charts, their faces are blurred. I can't tell what's wrong.
You called. [He might be hallucinating and having trouble stringing coherent thoughts together with the distraction, Fiona, but he can get that.] It's bad if you called.
[ If he notices the huff and the mutter, he doesn't say anything. Then again, considering he's kinda still out of it in the first place, well..
Either way, he'll nod here and there as he does his best to follow the conversation. At least it's not as bad before. He'll be good as new in a few days, right? ...Right? ]
It might not be a bad idea. This place... well. It's full of surprises. I'll tell you that much..
But we'll gonna do all we can to avoid another trap like that if we can help it.. [ It's one thing if it's him. It's another if it were anyone else he were with. Sure, you can't do anything if you're dead.
But...
Doesn't change the feeling that he's let too much happen, lost too many people.. If it's going to be anyone... ]
You might be right about that order though.

Hey, Dr. Watson? Not sure if you remember me, but it's Jim Hawkins. We talked a little before, and I - travel with Kain and Zack Fair.
[ Watson's one of the later calls Jim's making, so he at least has an idea of what to say. He got the ones he knows are going to be most difficult out of the way first, and left those he's less certain about for later. It's entirely possible Watson won't care at all, but considering he'd written Zack a prescription just days earlier Jim thinks perhaps he might. ]
I wanted to let you know that the pills helped a lot.
[ No, Jim, that's not what you wanted to let him know. Start over: ]
[Oh, god. More people are dead. More people here are dead. He can't help anyone in the hospital, and he can't help anyone here. Hadn't he just told them to be careful? But Jim... Jim is one of the kids and he was traveling with them? There's a delay and John sounds distracted when he replies, but he replies.]
Sorry. I'm so sorry, Jim. Are you with someone else? Find someone... else. Find someone else to be with if you're alone. I'm sorry. I'm really sorry.
[That last apology is sounds quieter, but only because John is looking up from his clipboard - tablet - clip... because he is looking up and apologizing to someone else in the hospital, not Jim.]
