Hello. I was thinking of people and I thought I should contact you. I don't expect you to care I'm alive but things are fine between myself and Castiel these days. I think we may have been bonding.
I can understand now why you felt the need to defend him. He's a very vulnerable person, isn't he? Terrifying but vulnerable.
[John's more than a little surprised at the contact. He hasn't spoken to Dorian much since resolving their row over Castiel. He can't help glancing ahead at Sherlock while they're trudging through the snow. A part of him that he's ashamed of is a little disappointed this isn't Mary, risen and calling.]
Of course I care that you're alive. I'm glad you're back, Dorian. And it's good to hear you're getting on with Castiel a bit better.
[He sounds subdued, though.]
I spoke with him when he was back to himself--Jimmy. Nice man. It's unfortunate both of them can't be separated here so it's not just one or the other in control of the same body.
As did I. It was an enlightening conversation. Their situation remains horrifying but it seems more likely that Castiel is another victim of it than its instigator. They're alone and far from home, much like the rest of us.
I saw your wife's death notice. My condolences and I think she'll be back.
[Dorian doesn't sound like he feels awkward about offering any of that.]
Thanks. I'm sure she will be. [He's really not. Let's just... focus on Castiel.] Not sure how much he told you, but it seems like an even higher power than him's been mucking around with his memories... and whatever plan his god has for creation.
Yes, that does seem likely. Nearly infinite time to research humanity and he knows so little about how we work? That sounds like interference of some sort.
I compared it to the state of one of my friends back home and he agreed. Cole's not an angel by any means but he's another incorporeal being with memory problems. I almost wish he were here so I could ask him about it but if he were here he'd be in the same boat as the rest of us and I'd hate to have to kill him too. Or be killed by him, I suppose.
[Dorian's delivery is a little too even for that to be a joke.]
I would ask Castiel about it but Jimmy said I'm direct and I scare him. That doesn't seem likely to help him out at the moment.
... You're very direct, yeah. [Sometimes that's a good thing. Others... not so much.] Wouldn't call you scary, but we haven't exactly met in-person. Maybe you're eight feet tall, or something. [Joking, yes. Mostly joking. Although, the Joker an Stein are obnoxiously tall and John's never been particularly afraid of them.]
I was getting the impression that angels just aren't particularly interesting human advances rather than him not remembering anything about us. Could be you're right, though. He does seem... like his head's up in the sky at times.
According to that survey you conducted, I'm taller than you but not by that much.
From talking with Jimmy, it sounds like angels in general don't care abut humanity very much, and who can blame them, but Castiel himself is something of an outlier who likes humanity and finds us curious. And yet, well, he knows so little about us it would be funny if it weren't so very sad.
[And unusually for Dorian, he doesn't sound flippant when he says that.]
Me? No, I've done that. It was neither pleasant nor successful. If I want someone picking my brain on why I can love, loathe, and grieve for my father at the same time, well- I don't want.
You're human. I think that makes you a good example. No one's a paragon, y'know?
[Just... putting that out there given the fact that he's given Dorian a hard time in the past. John doesn't feel like much of a shining example of humanity, either, these days.]
I'm sure between you there's a sizable representation of doctors. Though if we are all this "weird" perhaps that is the commonality here.
Anyway, I'm sure he can figure it out as he goes. We complicate things wonderfully and terribly but really, consuming, expelling, and struggling to do the right thing is the essence of living. Anything else is making more of humans than we are.
[Well, all right, maybe he could get used to Dorian's brand of humor. John snorts.]
It certainly falls under the first two at a bear minimum. Thank you again for giving me a heads up about you and Castiel. It's honestly a weight off, even if it isn't one of the bigger ones I've been juggling.
I had noticed you take quite a bit on yourself, yes. I'm happy to bring you peace of mind however small.
[Since he was death priced, that came out far more sincerely than it ordinarily would have. This conversation was also why he wouldn't go to John about Ecks murdering Mycroft.]

Are you going to try to help educate him on humanity?
[Since Dorian seems to have taken an interest.]

And there's sex, too. Unless you're counting that under consuming.

[Dorian definitely sounds amused.]

Considering me at peace tonight. Take care, Mr. Pavus, and keep warm.
