[While Watson talks, Zach makes some notes of what to tell Kes and what to do - he doesn't want to forget. It all reminds him of the time Kesara stabbed herself just for attention, because of the Marquise, of all people, trying to help out, but this time, it - it's for real. This time Kesara's really a little broken, and really needs some help.]
okay, will do that. She's sleeping right now so I can't show you but I'll take pictures. Are you heading towards the new tunnels at all?
Is there a chance it can get better all on its own, or will she need I don't know, pins or something in there?
[Zach is used to these injuries; he's seen plenty in his time as a football player and he's been lucky to not sustain any himself that sidelined him for too long. But he's seen some shit. He's seen how, untreated, it gets worse more often than it gets better.]
Pins? No, no. Not unless it's something really serious. From what you're describing, it's rough, she'll be in pain, but just make sure you keep it in a sling, keep it elevated, ice it, and take pain meds and she should heal on her own in a few weeks.
Kids are resilient, especially young kids.
I'll be heading over to the new tunnels to deliver Mr. Solomons, yeah. If you'll be near the entrance, I'd be happy to look at her personally.
Okay. Okay, that's good. I won't be there anymore, I'm leaving the tunnels for a bit, but she'll definitely want to meet Mr Solomons, I think, so you could make the most of it then. I'll let her know you're coming, so she can get used to the idea.
Oh, I did have another question, doc. Pure curiosity. I've talked to Charlie - he's a buddy - and the whole Beckett thing seems weird to me. Not gonna ask him because he wouldn't know, but just in case, do you have any idea why he'd go berserk like that? I mean, you looked after Charlie, maybe you got a clue.
MN poisoning seems to have a variety of effects on people. People get sick, they experience pain, some get manic... I think maybe it hits obsessions, too? Beckett thinks he was a vampire back in his world. Or maybe he really was a vampire. I dunno. Point is, he drank blood.
He's been having bad cravings for a while, but they've been getting worse and worse for a while. I think the MN poisoning drove him mad.
I think so. At least from what I've understood? All of us have MN in our bodies. Some people have more of it than others. I'm not sure what causes one person to succumb to it more quickly than others apart from having their Beacon off. Apparently, that's meant to help the Admin sort you out... but it attracts anomalies, so there's a trade off.
[Zach, were you around for the whole 'the world is radioactive and we will all die horribly without the MN in our bodies and proper WiFi reception' part of events? John's glad this is text because Zach can't see the way he's raising a brow judgmentally.]
We're not all dying right at this moment, Zach. Relax. Remember we've got these machines inside us to keep us alive. They've got some nasty side effects, but not everyone gets them, and not everyone has them at the same severity.
[Judging turns to bristling. He's halfway through a response about Alfie not having the market cornered on the word 'mate' before realizing that's probably over-defensive. That gets deleted and replaced with something a little quieter.]
We're both from London, not the poshest parts of it. Bit of crossover there. I know it's hard for Americans sometimes. Sorry about that.
I'll keep you up to date, anyway. Let me know if you need anything else with Kesara and just keep her arm in a sling, all right?
[Now, Zach definitely feels judged. Ah, these stupid Americans. He knows he's not the brightest crayon in the box, but what does Watson expect, Zach's never heard him speak, only Alfie.]
Wasn't an insult, y'know.
If you can see her when you're around, it'd be good. I'll make sure she knows to keep her arm up, and will let Duster and Tifa know to keep on eye on that. I'm leaving the tunnels tomorrow.

[Kesara hasn't struck him as anything short of bold and sociable, really. But it's easy to be those things across a tablet, he supposes.]

No, she's not. It's more - we got used to just being the two of us. She's not into being around a lot of people.

I'm sure it'll help.

I'd prefer you not share that around, though.

was just for my benefit. Is it affecting all of us, the poisoning?

...my beacon's off. It's never been on. But the only time I asked the admin for my medical records, I got shut down.
Shit, we're all dying, aren't we

Still can't convince me it's not the Matrix, honestly. The nanobots and the weirdness and the spiral stuff. It's all just so Matrix-y.
Also, we're definitely all dying. But it's okay, doc
no subject
I said not dying right now, mate. Take it in perspective. Easier to deal with that way, hmm?
As for the Matrix... I dunno about all that. Seems like it's something more than just that. No idea what, but definitely something more.
no subject
Well, when you find out...let me know. I like the Matrix theory, I can sort of understand it.

[Yes he did.]
Keep safe wherever it is you're going, though. Weather never does let up around here, but it's rough if you're going it alone.

[It's making him oh so very determined. He's got an end goal.]

Meeting someone special, then?

it's Steph.

in case you couldn't tell, I'm totally winking right now. Teasing, doc. No dying, I got it.
