It all reminds him of the time Kesara stabbed herself just for attention, because of the Marquise, of all people, trying to help out, but this time, it - it's for real. This time Kesara's really a little broken, and really needs some help.]

[Zach is used to these injuries; he's seen plenty in his time as a football player and he's been lucky to not sustain any himself that sidelined him for too long. But he's seen some shit. He's seen how, untreated, it gets worse more often than it gets better.]

Pins? No, no. Not unless it's something really serious. From what you're describing, it's rough, she'll be in pain, but just make sure you keep it in a sling, keep it elevated, ice it, and take pain meds and she should heal on her own in a few weeks.

Kids are resilient, especially young kids.

I'll be heading over to the new tunnels to deliver Mr. Solomons, yeah. If you'll be near the entrance, I'd be happy to look at her personally.

Okay. Okay, that's good. I won't be there anymore, I'm leaving the tunnels for a bit, but she'll definitely want to meet Mr Solomons, I think, so you could make the most of it then. I'll let her know you're coming, so she can get used to the idea.

No, she's not. It's more - we got used to just being the two of us. She's not into being around a lot of people.

Oh, I did have another question, doc. Pure curiosity. I've talked to Charlie - he's a buddy - and the whole Beckett thing seems weird to me. Not gonna ask him because he wouldn't know, but just in case, do you have any idea why he'd go berserk like that? I mean, you looked after Charlie, maybe you got a clue.

[There's a bit of a pause in the reply.]

MN poisoning seems to have a variety of effects on people. People get sick, they experience pain, some get manic... I think maybe it hits obsessions, too? Beckett thinks he was a vampire back in his world. Or maybe he really was a vampire. I dunno. Point is, he drank blood.

He's been having bad cravings for a while, but they've been getting worse and worse for a while. I think the MN poisoning drove him mad.

I'd prefer you not share that around, though.

[Oh. That explains some things. Not just for Beckett, either, but just...things.]

I think so. At least from what I've understood? All of us have MN in our bodies. Some people have more of it than others. I'm not sure what causes one person to succumb to it more quickly than others apart from having their Beacon off. Apparently, that's meant to help the Admin sort you out... but it attracts anomalies, so there's a trade off.

...my beacon's off. It's never been on. But the only time I asked the admin for my medical records, I got shut down.

We're not all dying right at this moment, Zach. Relax. Remember we've got these machines inside us to keep us alive. They've got some nasty side effects, but not everyone gets them, and not everyone has them at the same severity.

Still can't convince me it's not the Matrix, honestly. The nanobots and the weirdness and the spiral stuff. It's all just so Matrix-y.

If you can see her when you're around, it'd be good. I'll make sure she knows to keep her arm up, and will let Duster and Tifa know to keep on eye on that. I'm leaving the tunnels tomorrow.
