[Bucky he has no words for how relieved he is for you giving him something to focus on apart from shivering.]
Where is it? And can you describe the texture and look of your skin where it is? Might be frostnip, which is the first stage of frostbite. Easier to deal with and you're less likely to lose tissue.
[Bucky... why did you not tell him about this sooner? John takes a breath.]
Are you anywhere near one of the houses that has hot water? Can you get to one of them in a day or so? I know down at the entrance the aquarium has hot water all the time in the sink. That's definitely frostbite. I don't want to scare you, Jay, but it sounds like you're at the point of needing partial amputations. We want to salvage as much tissue as possible, though, and that means rewarming your arm where it's connected to the metal. Trying to rewarm only to have it freeze again would cause worse damage, though. And you'll need treatment over a few days to keep as much of your arm as possible.
[If they were doing this right and in a hospital, he'd have Bucky in for at least a month, but they don't have that kind of time.]
Thawing can take up to an hour for something that serious, and the clinic only has hot water for 10 minutes a day. It's gonna hurt like hell when we rewarm it, too, so you'll need pain medication.
[He's not panicked about the idea of painful procedures, he's been through worse for many years, though he is a little concerned about losing more parts of his arm. He can't risk it not functioning here.
There's no point whining over it, though. What's happened has happened and he needs to face the consequences.]
Hang on.
[There's radio silence for about five minutes before Bucky responds again.]
No hot water here and not near the aquarium. Do I need to find a doctor in person or can I amputate what needs doing myself?
A doctor would be a much better idea. They'll be able to ensure you retain the most amount of tissue. Until then, I need to to cover those wounds as best you can. Don't do anything tight over them, we don't want the skin chaffing and sloughing off.
Let me check the map.
We're in #29, heading east toward Kesara's Tunnel. Then I'll be looping southwest and heading toward the entrance. I can break off from that and head your way, though.
Think I've heard some of the apartments in the tunnels have hot water if you're closer to that than not.
[He's not too far from there, but he's so wary of meeting with anyone still. Even after the Avengers meeting didn't go as badly as he thought it might, so he decides on a safer option.]
I have sharp glass.
If I turn on the video, can you direct me which bits to amputate?
[So calm and matter of fact about self amputation.]
Jay, that's a good way to lose a lot more tissue than you need to.
[Look who else is calm and matter-of-fact about it.]
How bad is the pain? I can prescribe you medication for that. In the meanwhile, I'd like you to try to get down to the aquarium, stop into the pharmacy and hospital and look for anything you can use for bandages or more cover for your arm. Once we do amputate you're going to need to change the dressings regularly. Since you don't have hot water right now, I'm going to need you to use body heat. Use your breath and your hand to cup and direct the heat from that over your arm. Keep going like that if you can for about 30 to 45 minutes. Might be best to do this at night when you have the time. Once it's warmed up, cover it. Use stuffing or insulation or anything you can find from what's in the houses - pull things apart if you need to. Bind that over your arm where it's frostbitten and keep it covered like that until your next round of warming.
If you can take time mid-day to warm that up, do it, but getting to the aquarium where you'll have access to continuous hot water is the most important. I'll meet you down there. We're maybe two days out from getting Solomons to the tunnels. After that, I'm breaking off and I'll make my way to you.
Okay? I've got a knife we can use along with some other supplies for a safer amputation.
[He sighs, not that it's audible to anyone but himself. Only the meagre trust that John has built so far makes him stay and listen to the advice rather than just hang up, especially because it goes on to ask for a meeting.
The paranoia that's somehow grown since he got here whispers in the back of his mind not to go, not to fall for a trap, but he manages to ignore it this time.]
Fine.
The aquarium, few days from now. I'll see you there. Tell no-one.
I won't, and I'll keep you updated on my ETA. This weather needs to let up. I'm sorry about the wait, Jay. I'll head your way quick as I can just as soon as I can.

[He can't remember if he's mentioned it before, but he doesn't think so.]
It's made of metal, vibranium alloy, where the metal touches skin has started to turn blotchy and hard, bleeding in places too.

But strangely, for now, he does trust the man. Perhaps the closest thing he has to a friend in a long time.]
Okay. See you soon. Bye.
[And then he's gone.]
