Just please let Charlie know to take care of his wounds and be careful if you do talk to him. I wish he hadn't run out like he did. That was relatively minor surgery we did, but it's still fairly major considering the environment.
My ear's still recovering, but now more frostbite after the first brush. I think I could do without losing the rest of it, really, or ruining my other ear to match. Fiona got me a pair of earmuffs to help with it.
[There's a pause.]
They're very pink.
[But real men wear pink. Probably. Real, non-frostbitten men.]
I'm as all right as I can be. I take it you read everything, then?
Oh. Well that's... good? About the earmuffs, not about the extra frostbite.
And uh. Yeah, I did. Sorry. [Short, awkward pause.] But I mean, you're a good guy, and I still kinda owe you one. I'm not gonna share anything in there.
And whatever I find out about this shit with Charlie, that stays between the people involved.
[Of course he read it. Who wouldn't read it? England. England hadn't read it. Fiona had stopped. There's a part of him that wants to withdraw from Charles now, but that's not exactly conducive to anything. He takes a deep breath and closes his eyes for a moment.]
I'm sure Charlie will appreciate that if he's been mum about it up 'til now. You don't need to worry about owing me. Please just stay safe and clear of Beckett while he's dealing with... everything. I've got a plan to try to help sort some of the MN issues. We'll see how that goes. Might be able to help him not attack anyone else and a few other people if it works.
Are you doing all right with that? Any symptoms you've noticed? Phantom pains? Illness? Obsession? Mania?
[Not worry about owing him? Perish the thought, Watson.
Except yeah he's totally gonna continue to think he owes you. Also he's going back to the Entrance so... no guarantees on the staying clear, either. Sorry Watson.]
Uhhh don't think so? Only phantom pains I've got are where my finger used to be, and those aren't that bad. [That's a lie.] No obsessions and I'm sleeping about the same as I normally do here. Not sick, either.
Whenever you get the pains, try to warm your hand up. Stick it under your armpit or between your thighs, or run it under warm water if you've got that. Try to relax yourself. Have you ever tried meditating? That can help. If you've got something like a ball or other object you can curl your whole hand around, try working and flexing with that. It might help trick your brain into thinking that that phantom finger's getting a workout.
Meditating? [What???] Like sitting on the floor and chanting om? I dunno man.
[This is just about the weirdest doctor advice he's ever gotten, Watson. Hey, wait, is Watson doctoring him? He didn't ask for this.]
I have this little squeezy ball thing. That'd probably work. [He was never sure why he ever picked that up, but hey. Now it might come in handy. No pun intended.]
Well, the chanting's optional. [Please enjoy an incredibly dry tone, Charles.] Meditation is about relaxation, regulating your breathing and your body's responses. Just find a place to get relatively comfortable and breathe in for 5 counts, out for 7. Try doing it for just ten or fifteen minutes. It'll put you more in tune with your body and focus you on your breathing, rather than any pain.
[Wow, did Watson just sass at him? He's pretty sure Watson just sassed at him. It's not a side of the doctor he's seen before, but he's alright with it.]
Well, okay. I mean, finding a comfortable place here is like finding buried treasure, but next time I'm near a bed- [that's not in a hospital-] maybe I'll give it a shot. Thanks, I guess.

How's the ear? And... how're you holding up after that whole fiasco?

What makes you the exception? Find a comfy place and get breathing, Doc.

[He pauses for a second, considering whether or not to say something.]
If I need anything, I'll let you know. [As far as doctors go, Watson's not so bad.] You do the same, yeah?
no subject
Sure. Cheers, mate! Say hi to Charlie from me whenever you speak to him.
