[It occurs to John, belatedly, that this is probably the reason that Al was pressing again to do something dangerous. And he'd snapped at the kid. Bloody hell. He's really not the best person to talk to for grief counseling, either.]

Get him talking. It doesn't have to be about Ed. Do you know anything he likes to talk about?

[ John had been able to calm him down when they were stuck in the white rooms, so he was the person Sylar had immediately thought of. And maybe a distraction would be good here too, if he could manage it. ]

His home world, but that might not go over well. Maybe I'll tell him about mine. Maybe I'll ask for more details on alchemy, too. Automail's off the table for now, but maybe I could show him how to fix a watch. Give him something else to pay attention to for a bit.

[ That had gotten his mind in gear, at least. He hadn't been sure what to even try before. ]

Yeah, maybe. Do you have the tools to actually fix a watch?

[ Sylar wasn't exactly expecting this situation himself. But he plans on trying his best with it. Maybe he could be useful here, at least? Even if it's more likely he'll just make things worse. ]

I've got enough to improvise, and two watches to take apart. It should be good to start with.
