The mushroom cloud at the end there points to nuclear missiles, yeah. Not sure why they would be coming from the east, though. Missiles aren't like airplanes. If they were coming in from the east, they probably originated to the east of Norfinbury. So that's... Canada, maybe somewhere in Europe. Or I suppose a warship off the east coast could manage that.

I think they probably attacked this town for whatever machine is bringing us here and maybe Andromeda.

What year are you from? The Cold War ended a long time ago by 2013. Suppose it could have gotten put back on, but at least in 2050 from Winter's stored memories, everything was fine. Provided she's telling the truth. We haven't got much to go on for that at the moment, though.

We don't know when the machine was built, but it might have been made for a different purpose and was put into service here to fulfill the population quota afterward.

I'm not sure. Something like 70 people at the moment? If it's true about us and the anomalies filling the quota, then that means that the more normal people there are, the fewer anomalies.
