[He doesn't particularly want her to know that he legitimately wants to kill someone. She's a chieftain of a ninja village, and Sherlock's already deduced that she's seen some trouble. She knows he was a soldier.

But killing someone in battle or when a life is immediately in danger is far different from this.]

But as soon as he asks his question, she knows she shouldn't have said what she had. Here, she had been trying to get him to open up, and he's turning it on her.

[She's given him this, and that means he's going to latch on and run it for as long as he can. Possibly to the point that she forgets what they were talking about before.]

[So she can't cook here. That leaves drawing.]

I used to have a blog I'd write in. It's like an online journal. I'd write up the cases Sherlock and I were working on.

He told me I should start writing again. Reckon it's his vanity talking.

[No, it had been Sherlock being nice, but John's going to play it off.]

[ Well, it's either one of those options or waking people up when she trains. Just because she can't sleep doesn't mean she has to deprive others. ]

Well, why don't you start writing again? But instead of those cases, why not write about home?

I think I'd rather write about what's going on here. I was going to start up my casebook again.

What exactly would you write about? Because I think it's a good idea.

What we've seen. What we've deduced so far. Theories about what might be going on. Important events. Those kinds of things. I was keeping a record of my conversations with the Admin, as well.

[ She takes a moment to respond. ]

I think a lot of people would be interested in that--especially those who are new to this place.

[ A pause. ]

You talk to ADMIN?

[John's been considering releasing the redacted (properly) version of his notes once more. Perhaps he will.]

She's one of the only sources of information we have. And she might well still be a prisoner like us, even if she is being forced to work for whatever's keeping us here. I don't trust her completely, but she's worth talking to.

Wow. I didn't think she'd respond to anyone, since she tends to not reply to us on her announcements.

[ She's referring to all of the announcements, not just obituaries. ]

What do you two talk about?

Whatever I can get out of her. It's usually like pulling teeth, even when it's something medical. I've just messaged her directly asking questions, and she does respond to those messages occasionally. It's part of the reason I try to encourage people not to yell at her too much. We really don't know what her circumstances are, and as little as I trust her, she's still giving some information and keeping food and supplies around for us.

Pulling teeth, how? Like she takes a while to respond? Or she gives vague answers? [ Her ninja training is kicking in right now, because subterfuge seems to be the answer here. And that sparks a memory. ]

John, I don't remember exact details, but I seem to recall something about her helping us the best she can without someone knowing. It sounds like that might be the reason she's not too forthcoming at times.

Yes. She does both of those things, sometimes at the same time.

I know it's probably a limitation of her rules or whatever, but she's bent things as far as she could to accommodate us before, so we know she's got at least some wiggle room on what she does and doesn't do.

I know someone like that. It is a little frustrating.

That might be true, but if you do things too much, someone is bound to notice. Do you think someone's noticed and is now keeping a closer eye on her?

It's a possibility. I'm still not sure what was going on between her and Mr. Miller when we were underground. It seemed like he was in charge of her, but he's told us she's his boss.

Could be he's reporting on her to some higher authority.

[ There's a long moment before she answer as she thinks about this. ]

You mean, he could be a spy for someone else? Like another country?

I don't think it's another country, no. Just someone in the same organization, but above Eve, like her supervisor.

Ah. So he's a mole. Or a traitor. Or however you want to look at it, right? Trying to get information that could possibly get Eve replaced--by him.

Now, if that's true, what makes Eve's job so important that he would do that?

[ She may be more important than anyone thought. ]

Informant might be the best word for it. It's not like he's doing anything against the rules if Eve's bosses told him to keep an eye on her and report and misconduct. I mean, it might be self-serving, too.

[That's a very good possibility.]

She is apparently the one bringing us in and knows what's going on, though. That seems like a step up from whatever he's doing.

Somehow, I don't think it's "might". I think he's also trying to protect his own skin at the same time.

[ A pause. ]

I thought you said she thinks we're the original residents?

Maybe original was a bad choice of words. She certainly thinks of us as citizens of Norfinbury. But Mr. Miller said she was the one who knows how we're brought here.
