[John doesn't actually get the message until much later that night when he has almost no interest in it. He knows he should. This is a serial killer. He's with a child. But the doctor can't summon up the will to do more than simply acknowledge the message.]
[ He leaves it at that for the moment. He did what he said he was going to do, and that's fine. Unfortunately, things are a little different a couple days later, so he contacts John again. ]
We're at the hospital now.
Do you have any advice for grieving teenagers? An anomaly got Ed, and I don't know what to do for Al. We've mostly been sitting in the same room and not talking. Zach and Steph aren't in a great way either, but Al's pretty much shut down.
[It occurs to John, belatedly, that this is probably the reason that Al was pressing again to do something dangerous. And he'd snapped at the kid. Bloody hell. He's really not the best person to talk to for grief counseling, either.]
Get him talking. It doesn't have to be about Ed. Do you know anything he likes to talk about?
[ John had been able to calm him down when they were stuck in the white rooms, so he was the person Sylar had immediately thought of. And maybe a distraction would be good here too, if he could manage it. ]
His home world, but that might not go over well. Maybe I'll tell him about mine. Maybe I'll ask for more details on alchemy, too. Automail's off the table for now, but maybe I could show him how to fix a watch. Give him something else to pay attention to for a bit.
[ That had gotten his mind in gear, at least. He hadn't been sure what to even try before. ]
[He shouldn't be relying on Sylar to take care of Al. And Steph. And Zach. Why is he with a bunch of kids now? John runs a hand down his face, wincing as he goes over Bucky and Pierce's bruising.]
Yeah, maybe. Do you have the tools to actually fix a watch?
[ Sylar wasn't exactly expecting this situation himself. But he plans on trying his best with it. Maybe he could be useful here, at least? Even if it's more likely he'll just make things worse. ]
I've got enough to improvise, and two watches to take apart. It should be good to start with.
