[He knows what that feels like, standing in a cryogenic tube as the world freezes and years pass. He hopes the hot water can help, but somehow he doubts it.]
We ran into Flynn. Or we thought it was Flynn. He was talking to us about how beautiful these flowers growing all over him were. We realized the danger, but still wanted to get some more information after that talk I'd had with Rhys earlier in the day.
Thought we were far enough away, but he had these vines. One of them snapped out and grabbed me. I tried to break it off with some rubble, but he grabbed Sherlock and Mycroft, too. It all went to hell pretty quickly. The last thing I can remember is feeling... things crawling inside me. I think he was using us for his roots.
I told him about the greenhouse down at the entrance before he killed us. With any luck, he's down there now and he'll stay down there.
[He hadn't been the last one to talk to John when he froze to death any of the times he died, had he? He doesn't reply for a long few moments as he thinks back in confusion, finally dredging up the confused memories of--
Oh.
Oh shit.
He hasn't often been confronted by the actions of the Soldier so overtly before, usually most of the people who've actively come into contact with him are already dead, and it doesn't feel good.]
I'd forgotten.
[Cold comfort to someone who obviously had to relive terror.]
[John's being a lot nicer about this than Bucky would likely be if the situation were flipped, and it sort of makes him want to punch a wall somewhere.]
You should've just hung up on me.
[Stupid John, too nice for his own good.]
As long as you kept moving and stayed alive, I would've understood.
Only didn't because you promised you'd keep moving. If I'd called you today and found you were dead from the cold, I'd have hunted you down to kick your ass when you revived.
I'll bear that in mind for the next time, shall I?
I'm keeping moving. Still freezing, but there's a bath with hot water close to where I've made it to. I don't think there's anyone in the area. I'd kill to have someone to sleep with right about now.
[There's a pause, then a hasty follow-up message.]

[Relief sweeps through him, not that it shows in his gruff tone.]
When you call I want to know what the hell last night was about.
[And with that, he'll hang up.]
@jwatson; text; night 419
I'm in Hsiaoke Pass. Going to try to get to the building in here with hot water.
no subject
Still too cold, then.
[Not a question.]
Must be your death price.

As long as you don't actually freeze to death.
[Like almost happened last night.]
What happened, John?

Not what I meant.
[He can't make text seem less blunt, so he doesn't bother to try.]
What the hell happened last night?
no subject
Just remembered something. Don't worry about it.
no subject
[He's not letting this go.]
no subject
I've frozen to death here before. It just got to be a little much.

[John was freaking out because he wanted to talk to other people, there was something about talking to Bucky that was getting to him.]
Quit it.
no subject
[Not technically.]
You were the last person I talked to then.

I'm sorry.

It's not really fine, but it's fine, you know? It's over. Sorry I scared you.

You should've just hung up on me.

For warmth. You know what I mean.

My Pop used to say that only people with a guilty conscience make clarifications like that.
no subject
[So there!]
The point is, I'm making an effort not to freeze.
no subject
[He won't, John is as far as this joking goes, but sometimes it's nice to be a jerk.]
no subject
At least make sure she's pretty, please?
no subject
Making no promises, you'll take what I can get.
Keep warm, and call me if you need me.
