[She clears her throat a little awkwardly. It was either him or House, and House is already at negative trust because of all the wonderful stories Rhys and Angel have shared. At least John is just at a nice baseline of zero. Asking for help from someone she barely knows isn't easy for her, but what choice does she have with Rhys in this state?]
Surprisingly, I don't actually need any condoms. Save them for Captain Rogers. [Her tone says this isn't her reconsidering the offer of dinner, either.] We'll just have the first bit of help on the house, hmm? What can I do for you?
[ John is confused, as well. Stein and Rhys are gone and it's past lockdown. He assumes they switched over to the other house, but he doesn't know why when everyone else is here. ]
So am I. Where are you and Dr. Stitches? Everyone's in the house with the shower.
[ It's a bit late in the night and he's not sure if he'll hear back from him then, but it's worth a shot, regardless. Gaia knows people hardly sleep around here though... Not without good reason. ]
Hey, John. It's me, Zack. I heard you were the one who prescribed the ante... ante-however you say it. [ It's hard to brain something like that when his mind is still rolling around a bit. ] Anyway.. Thanks. I owe you one.
[Luckily, this is before John knows about the situation with Rhys and Stein, so he's more than happy to hear from Zack.]
Acetaminophen. You can call it Tylenol, if that's easier. Glad you were able to get it, but first prescription's on the house. Sounds like you lot ran into a nasty sort of business. Worth it?
Hey, Dr. Watson? Not sure if you remember me, but it's Jim Hawkins. We talked a little before, and I - travel with Kain and Zack Fair.
[ Watson's one of the later calls Jim's making, so he at least has an idea of what to say. He got the ones he knows are going to be most difficult out of the way first, and left those he's less certain about for later. It's entirely possible Watson won't care at all, but considering he'd written Zack a prescription just days earlier Jim thinks perhaps he might. ]
I wanted to let you know that the pills helped a lot.
[ No, Jim, that's not what you wanted to let him know. Start over: ]
[Oh, god. More people are dead. More people here are dead. He can't help anyone in the hospital, and he can't help anyone here. Hadn't he just told them to be careful? But Jim... Jim is one of the kids and he was traveling with them? There's a delay and John sounds distracted when he replies, but he replies.]
Sorry. I'm so sorry, Jim. Are you with someone else? Find someone... else. Find someone else to be with if you're alone. I'm sorry. I'm really sorry.
[That last apology is sounds quieter, but only because John is looking up from his clipboard - tablet - clip... because he is looking up and apologizing to someone else in the hospital, not Jim.]
[He knows of three doctors here, he's contacting two of them.
The third is too much of a risk considering he might already know who Bucky is, unless that guess with his name really was dumb luck. It's not worth taking that chance.
His hands are shaking as he types, making the responses slow.]
You're a doctor, right? Do you have any sedatives?
@j contacted me asking for sedatives with a fishy story about having been completely unable to sleep for years. If he contacts you, I recommend giving him something that he can't use to take down someone else.
I also wanted to apologize for my actions recently.
[This message comes pretty late. Late enough that most people would probably be asleep or trying to fall asleep by now. But Ginger? Well, sleep isn't really a part of her routine any longer. And she's been thinking about this for days. She hopes that maybe if she takes care of this now, her traveling companions won't have to overhear. She could use text, but something like this seems too personal to do that way.]
Excuse me, Doctor? I'm so sorry it's like, super duper late, but I was hoping maybe you had a second? It's a bit...I need help.
[John hasn't been sleeping terribly well since the dreams... along with everything else, so he's awake when her message comes. Because he is with others who are also trying to sleep, though, he keeps his voice quiet. He sounds mildly concerned, but not panicked when he replies, but he's rather worried. What now, dear god?]
Always got a second for you, Ginger. How can I help?
Is this a riddle? If you're in the hospital, it looks like it's been gutted. I'd guess most of the standard disciplines, though, along with NIMA. General practice, maternity ward, surgeries... They were dealing with a plague for a while there, too, by the look of it.
[Fiona's usually pretty good at keeping her voice calm and level when she wants to. She can't this time, out of a combination of fear and concern and pure exhaustion.]
[There's a bit of a delay in the response, but nothing excessive. He wants to talk to her. He's just... dealing with a certain gangster first. As you do.]
Tunnels, back where I started. Are you okay? Is everyone back with you? Did Haurchefant...?
Yeah! Yeah, I'm okay, Luna. Don't worry. I'm with Mr. Solomons just now. Heading out soon, though. Were you able to get out of the morgue? I'm coming to you. Fiona's got Quark and they wanted to meet up with us outside the tunnels.
[It's not too long after lockdown ends that John receives a message from England. England's enunciation is mostly businesslike, however, there's a mote of nervousness that occasionally touches the middles of his words.]
Good morning. [And then, an interjection of characteristic British dryness:] Or as good of a morning as it can be, considering the circumstances. I understand that you've had a difficult few days.
[An understatement, really. But England is back to seriousness after that.] I wanted to ask how you were doing. I know that we're not well-acquainted, but— well. I hope to hear an encouraging response, regardless.
[Ah, well... okay. This is fine. John's tone is equally dry when he replies at first.]
Well, y'know? Think we've all run into a bit of bother lately. I'm fine. [He is not fine, but it's an encouraging response.] Just heading down to our local hospital to see to a few of the people who were tucked up in there. Not the worst place to get caught.
How are you doing? Are you with anyone? Focus on getting rehydrated. You'll probably want to move, as well. Dunno when that cabin fever business sets in properly, but it can't be too far off.
[You want to fuss at him, England? Please enjoy some fussing back. It helps to keep the focus off of him.]
[He was on a different username the last time he talked to this doctor, but his supply is running low and he seems to have the bad luck of keeping running into people. So he doesn't have much choice but to send a message Watson's way.]
Yo, Watson. What's up? How are you doing after all of that crazy shit? Checking in to let you know we're all okay. Just the usual you would expect after all of that crap happening.
Hullo, Zell! Glad to hear you and the lads are all right. Spot of bother we had there. I'm fine.
[Text makes lying so much easier.]
Appreciate the heads up. I'm over at the hospital after getting Mr. Solomons out of some trouble and setting him up with food. Luna, Shiro, Rin, Ms. Carter, and Captain Rogers aren't in great shape, but they're surviving about as well as you, I reckon. Where did you end up getting trapped?
[John sighs heavily before actually responding. They're walking, him lugging Haurchefant along with Fiona nearby. His tone is brusque, distracted.]
Yeah, all right. Cool. We're making for the school today. Should have food and be heading south tomorrow. All your limbs still intact? Stomach doesn't think your throat's been cut? All those good things?
[He's well enough to flirt incessantly with Fiona and needle John. So.]
[Ecks has been sending Dr. Watson brief reports more or less nightly since he asked her to, but so far they've only been confirmation of her basic status: still digging, still alive after the lock-in, etc. Last night she forgot in the excitement, but tonight she is back in his inbox.]
We finished the tunnel and there is a building under the snow. Behind the building there are ruins under the snow. There are maybe lots of ruins but the food will be gone soon so I am leaving to get food.
It's a good idea to stock up before you head to a new area. We're over at the school now. Could wait for you, if you'd like, then head back to the tunnel together.
[A little stupid, but the person he trusts most (and that's not saying much), is someone he's never actually met face to face. But Watson has given him no reason to distrust yet, he's been honest and helpful, so it's to Watson he goes.]
[Once Alfie is inside, he sends off identical messages to Tifa, Royce, and Watson. (But not Haurchefant. Sorry, bro; he likes you okay, but he barely knows you.) ]
Yeah. We're safe for now. Checking in with Haurchefant. Where did you two end up? How're Fiona's ribs and shoulder? She'll tell you they're fine, but she's in a hell of a lot of pain. Don't believe her. Just remind her to take slow deep breaths as she can.
Yeah, we're safe. Looks like that monster followed Haurchefant and Tifa. Trying to get in touch with Ecks. Know she's in the area. Did you hear about anyone else? We should warn them.
[He doesn't want to deal with this right now. He's angry at Alfie for not telling him what happened earlier. He could have prevented this if he'd known. He wouldn't have told Ecks he was with Duster. He wouldn't have let her just roam the house freely.]
He's dead. Ecks for House. Tried to stop her. Tried to save him. Didn't work. I'll meet you at 49. Have his things for you for when he wakes up. Because I'm not really interested in a bloodfeud, if you've got a problem with what Ecks did, you can take it out on me. I'm sending her off until I deliver Duster's things. I'll be keeping an eye on her from here on out.
I could've stopped this, Solomons. If I'd know that Duster murdered House. If I'd known that Ecks knew about it.
[Okay... first Beckett and now Angel. John is getting seriously worried about Rhys now.]
No more than a few teaspoons. If you were donating blood, it'd usually be around a pint that you could give safely, but you'd be waiting 3 to 4 months in between donations. Red cells take weeks to regenerate.
